Learn to Play Omaha Hi at the Next Level

The game of Omaha Hi is a really lucrative way to make money if you understand how to play well. Most of the people battling at the Omaha tables are so accustomed to Texas Hold’Em that they try and apply their knowledge to the game of Omaha Hi. That is a huge mistake that will cost a lot of money. This is not Texas Hold’Em and the tactics are quite different.

Bets and bluffs in Omaha

The betting rounds are all the same as in Texas Hold’Em and everything else is also similar except for having 4 hole cards. This can cause a lot of confusion for inexperienced players but can really help you dominate. If you are not confident in your Omaha Hi skills, play at a lower level at the beginning. This will help you develop your game and get you ready to take a shot at the higher levels.

The most important thing to remember in Omaha Hi is that bluffing will not work as well as in Hold’Em. Because you are dealt 4 cards and because a lot of people like to see the flop in Omaha, there is a much higher chance that one of your opponents will make a strong hand.

Predict your winning chances

Another good way to think about Omaha Hi is like this: if there is a possible hand that can beat you, and there were more than 2 people that played the flop, there is a good chance someone has that hand. If there are 3 cards of the same suit showing on the board, over 50% of the time someone will have the flush. The same is true for a straight.

Another hand you need to get away from is if you have made 3 of a kind with a pair showing on the board. There is a good chance that someone will have the full house. Also, if you have a flush and there is a full house possible, you need to be careful because it is likely for your opponent to have the full house. Basically, do not bluff in this game until you get comfortable reading all of the unique situations.

If you have good cards, you can really make a lot of money in Omaha Hi. It is a good idea to try and let other people bet for you and you can just call with your monster hands. Until the end of course when you can raise and force them to call an extra bet at the end. If you are playing Omaha Hi Limit poker, you can check raise, or raise every street and you will most likely get called. Just make sure your opponent does not make his hand. If you are playing no limit or pot limit, you should only raise double the bet if you want your opponent to call you.

Basically, do not bluff. You can make enough money in this game playing your big hands and maximizing the profit. Furthermore, if you chase down a lot of draws, it might work in the short run, but in the end you will lose money. Try and learn the odds of the game through poker calculators and by playing low stakes before you step it up the next level.
